With this money, the state university plans to set up a state-of-the-art laboratory at the CAS in Lucknow for research and training students to develop android applications. AKTU intends to develop the laboratory at CAS within the next two months.

The grant was announced on December 5 at the 49th financial meeting of AKTU which was presided by vice-chancellor Dr Vinay Pathak and other representatives of the university.

According to representatives of Google, India, the grant was provided under the company’s initiative to create a highly skilled tech workforce that is readily employable by the industry and helps spur innovation. “To achieve this goal, we launched our Mobile Skilling programme aimed at benefitting more than two million student developers in India. We’re doing it through various channels and by engaging with a variety of partners. This grant is a part of the effort to set up mobile development labs for students,” a Google representative said.

Gaur said the amount will be spent in two parts.

“We want our students to learn android developing skills and trainers from Google will help with this. Secondly, we also want to develop a world-class laboratory for computer science at the Centre for Advanced Studies where students can get access to all the updated equipment and software. We wish to promote research among students and this amount will be used judiciously,” Gaur said.

There are over 600 colleges affiliated to AKTU across the state and over 150 of them are in Noida and Ghaziabad.
