Noida: Cops get automatic number plate recognition device in vehicles

The ANPR cameras will communicate any traffic related offences to the traffic control room on real time basis, after which challan will be issued to the offender, a police official said.

The Gautam Budh Nagar traffic police on Friday installed automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras at an intersection in Sector 57 and two police patrolling vehicles, aimed to curb traffic related offences in the city.

The vehicle mounted cameras will enable the traffic police to park the patrol vehicles at different places, where traffic related offences are reported, said Love Kumar, senior superintendent of police of Gautam Budh Nagar, while flagging off the vehicles.

Gautam Budh Nagar district has about 400 traffic intersections/junctions which become difficult to be managed by less than 60 traffic cops. In addition to keeping a check on the traffic violations at the junction, these cops are also responsible to ensure smooth flow of traffic and also handle the situation in case of any road accident.

The ANPR cameras will keep check on vehicles jumping red lights, violating stop line, triple riding on two-wheelers, riding without helmet, driving on opposite direction and vehicles parked in no parking zones.
