Noida-Ghaziabad border to get CCTV camera network soon

The police have recently roped in three builders to install nearly 60 high definition CCTV cameras at the Noida-Ghaziabad border in an effort to check crime.

In recent days, over a dozen incidents of snatching, robbery and murder have been reported from areas close to the Ghaziabad-Delhi border. The Noida police is already reeling under severe staff crunch and a move like this can do wonders for the city.

“The process of installing CCTV cameras has started. We have roped in three building companies for the work under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) plan. They will fund the project. We have identified spots in Parthala, Sector 71, Sector 60, Sector 63, Fortis, ABCD, Chijarsi and Sector 67 crossroads’ areas,” said Anup Singh, deputy superintendent of police.

In Sector 18 market, three snatchers were recently arrested after their movements were captured on the CCTV cameras installed in the area. The police said the cases of snatching and robbery are high in the border area since the perpetrator(s) can easily slip into Ghaziabad.

These high resolution, four megapixel cameras will have a range of 800 metres for face recognition and the hard disc will be able to save recordings for up to three days, the police said.

“Three builders have funded the project and installation is under process. It is expected that these cameras will be functional by the end of the month,” Singh said.
