Noida police apprehends ex-serviceman who killed a stray dog with his feet

There is no provision to arrest the ex-army man under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, hence Noida police apprehended him and served him a notice.

The man who killed a stray dog by strangling it under his feet in Noida’s Sector 45 was apprehended by the police on Monday evening and served notice under the under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The man had been earlier identified by Gautam Budh Nagar police as Dhan Singh, an ex-army person serving as traffic marshal in Noida. Action was initiated a day after clearer visuals of the man killing the animal surfaced.

“The man has been served notices and his offence will be duly recorded in the charge sheet,” Circle officer (Noida City-1) Abhinandan. There is no provision for arrest under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Noida police has taken cognizance in the matter and investigating the case further, circle officer Abhinandan said.

An eyewitness had told Hindustan Times on Saturday that “the person was drunk and hell bent on killing the dog as it barked at him.”

The man allegedly stood on the stray dog for over an hour, pressing the dog’s mouth and neck onto the ground with one foot and holding its hind legs with another foot, and moved only after the dog was dead.

The incident took place at Som Bazaar in Noida Sector 45 between 9pm and 10pm on Friday night.
