Noida traffic police to ask banquet halls for their parking provisions

Officials said they have started compiling data of all banquet halls in Noida and their owners will be contacted for a meeting in June.

In order to prevent traffic congestion during the wedding season, the traffic police will ask the management of banquet halls and marriage homes in the city for details of their parking provisions for guests’ vehicles.

Officials said they have started compiling data of all banquet halls in Noida and their owners will be contacted for a meeting in June.

In the meeting, the banquet hall and marriage home owners will be asked to provide details of the parking space available with them. Those who do not have such space at the venue and where vehicles are parked on roads, will be told to find alternative sites and alert their staff in advance to ensure that traffic congestion due to roadside parking does not take place.

Traffic inspector Layak Singh, who is supervising the plan, said, “The same rule applies to community centres too. The residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) concerned will be contacted to comply with the rules. As of now, we have identified 20 banquet halls in busy areas of the city that cause major congestion during the wedding season.”

According to traffic police officials, they have seen wedding guests park their vehicles haphazardly on the road, making it very difficult to regulate vehicular movement when traffic volume increases. Many a times, commuters end up getting stuck for hours.

“We are also ready to make banquet hall owners understand how they can follow the guidelines. We will conduct a meeting with the owners in mid-June. This will also give them time to take adequate steps before the start of the wedding season,” said Singh.

He added that violations will invite action, including fines. Vehicles found hampering traffic movement will be towed away, he added.
