Noida: Uppal holds audience spellbound with Odissi performance at Sarvottam Int’l School

Titled ‘Jhankar’, the event focussed on classical Indian dance forms, which were performed to perfection by professional artists to an auditorium full of dignitaries, parents, teachers and children.

It was an evening of dance and jubilation at the Sarvottam International School in Noida, as renowned classical dancers presented exuberant performances that depicted the rich cultural heritage of India.

Renowned dancer Kritika Uppal (21) was the star attraction of the evening. She began the show with a piece to invocate Lord Jagannath, which has been choreographed by Padma Bhushan awardee Madhavi Mudgal.

Elaborating on the dance, Uppal, a Delhi-based artist, said that Odissi is one of the oldest dance forms of India and is full of folklore.

“I have been practising Odissi for the last 14 years under the guidance of Madhavi Mudgal, my guru. Odissi is a lyrical and feminine dance form that is full of stories and dancers enact the storyline through their performance,” said Uppal.

Uppal started off the event with her invocation dance, holding the audience spellbound. Following Uppal, several other dancers also performed other dance forms at the event.

Key dignitaries present at the event were Rakesh Chauhan of the school administration and other representatives of the Sarvottam International School.
