The mobile app, PayTm, has sent a proposal to the UPSRTC to make over the counter payments at bus depots in Ghaziabad, cashless, by using the digital wallet.

The proposal was sent by the firm on Monday to UPSRTC’s Ghaziabad regional office and it has been sent to the headquarters for approval.

“Each bus depot will have PayTm’s quick response (QR) code displayed (different for each bus depot) prominently at the ticket counter. The passenger can simply scan the QR code though the PayTm mobile application in their phone and make the necessary payment for the ticket,” PK Bose, UPSRTC’s regional manager, Ghaziabad, said.

On successful payment, a confirmatory message will be sent to the passenger as well as the cashier and the passenger will receive their ticket over the counter.

“The proposal is likely to be accepted by the headquarters in a day or two after which the PayTm QR codes will be displayed at all the three UPSRTC bus depots in the city. This will reduce the time spent by passengers in the queue as well as make transactions more convenient, as they are cashless,” Bose said.

“At present, the payment for online bookings are made after the passenger puts in their credit or debit card details. However, after the proposal is approved, the passengers will be able to pay through the PayTm wallet and the time of transaction will be reduced,” Bose said.
