Police, students made aware about digital payment security in Noida

“There are over 3.77 billion internet users, 2.78 billion active social media users and 2.54 billion active mobile social users in the world”.

In an effort to discuss methods to thwart cyber crimes related to banking and make the world of digital transactions a safer place, two separate events were held in Noida on Friday evening.

A seminar was held on cases of digital payment fraud in SSP office Surajpur in Greater Noida.

In a workshop, held at senior superintendent of police office at Surajpur in Greater Noida , the anti-fraud division of Axis Bank held training session for police personnel regarding banking frauds.

Police personnel were trained on different categories of fraud that have caught the attention of anti-fraud division of the private bank over the past few years.

“In the workshop, the anti-fraud team gave details about different categories of digital payment fraud and can they be averted. Police personnel were also trained about their methodology while dealing with cyber fraud cases and how to adapt newer investigative methods,” said Preeti Bala, superintendent of police (crime).

“Common people should be aware of the do’s and don’ts related to digital transaction such as keeping banking passwords and ATM pin confidential. They must also be aware of the phishing methods such as card cloning and skimming,” said a representative from the anti-fraud division of Axis Bank.

“There are over 3.77 billion internet users, 2.78 billion active social media users and 2.54 billion active mobile social users in the world. 50% of the web traffic generated is through mobiles followed by laptops and desktops at 45%. India also have a considerable population on the internet which makes the country prone to cyber threat and cyber warfare. Today, such warfare poses a threat to critical infrastructure of India including banking and finance, government operations and transportation,” said Pankaj Verma, cyber security expert, TCS Digital.

Similarly, other experts spoke about the infiltration of information technology in the lives of people and how important it is for people to safeguard their interests.

“IT has transcended traditional boundaries and very soon, traditional business models will collapse, merging IT with every kind of business. It’s a misconception that bad guys in cyber space are ahead of good guys; over 99% of cybercrimes are taking place with conventional methods,” said Himanshu Nautiyal, senior managing consultant, IBM.
