The Ghaziabad police has requested that prime accused Devendra Kumar, arrested for the abduction of Snapdeal’s 24-year-old executive Dipti Sarna, be remanded in their custody.

There are around 30 criminal cases pending against Devendra.

The city police said it need more information about the i10 that was used by the accused when the autorickshaw he was travelling in ran out of fuel near the Murad Nagar pipeline road.

Devendra had allegedly told the police that he asked his brother Jitendra to pick him in the i10 after the auto ran out of fuel.

Devendra had planned to abduct Dipti in a Swift and take her to a hideout in Gannaur, Haryana. But the car got a puncture just before the abduction and Devendra went ahead with his plan in an autorickshaw.

The police said Dipti was driven towards Baghpat in the i10 as Devendra’s original plan suffered many setbacks.

“We also need to know how he (Devendra) procured weapons and if he was in touch with other criminals in the city as he was staying in Khoda for the past three months. Further, we are also planning to record the victim’s statement before a magistrate soon,” Salman Taj, superintendent of police (SP), Ghaziabad, said.

“It would be a major breakthrough if that woman comes forward as she is the prime eyewitness in the case. We are still waiting for her to come forward and help us in the investigation,” the SP said.

Officials are also yet to recover Dipti’s mobile phone which was hidden by Devendra near a construction site. They said the phone might have been buried.
