St. Petersburg: Viswanathan Anand was held to a draw by Russian Peter Svidler but rose up to the joint second spot after the eighth and penultimate round of Alekhine Memorial Chess tournament here.
On what turned out to be an off-day in office after a couple of remarkable victories with white pieces, Anand could do little against Svidler who had things under control for the most part of the game despite playing black.
Hockey camp
Bangalore: The preparatory camp of the India colts ahead of the junior men’s hockey World Cup, to be held in New Delhi in December, commenced at the SAI centre, here on Wednesday.
The camp will be monitored by newly appointed coach Gregg Clark. 37 probables will attend the camp, which concludes on May 20.
Shooter collapses
New Delhi: The sweltering heat is taking a toll on the junior shooters undergoing a trial camp at the Karni Singh Shooting Ranges, with one suffering a "nervous breakdown" recently. A junior shooter named Puskhar, from Madhya Pradesh, collapsed a few days back.

New Delhi: Top seed P V Sindhu advanced to the second round of the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament after recording a win over Singapore's Chena Jiayuan on a day that saw three Indians qualifying for the pre-quarterfinals of the men's singles event in Kuala Lumpur. Sindhu won 21-13 19-21 21-13.
Making the pre-quarters of the men's event were R M V Gurusaidutt, Sameer Verma and K Srikanth.

new delhi: Tanmay Srivastava's 72 and Sarang Rawat's 3/36 helped ONGC beat LB Shastri by 6 runs to win Om Nath Sood cricket. Nitish Rana of LB Shastri was named man of the tournament. In DDCA league, Rishit Saini's 5/12 helped NK Khanna Club beat DDA by 10 wickets after skittling them out for just 37. In other games, Collage beat Young Friend while Gemini beat DTC.
