The 30,000 odd volunteers for the Commonwealth Games have a reason to cheer. Organising Committee chairman, Suresh Kalmadi, along with ace shooter and CWG brand ambassador, Abhinav Bindra, on Tuesday officially launched uniforms for the workforce that will lend support to the Games, come October.

Bindra stressed on the importance of the Games. “Everyone should now turn their focus on the athletes who will represent us in CWG. Hundreds of them are toiling hard. It is time the nation turns to its real stars,” he said.
Bindra, who bagged gold in the pairs event in the previous edition of CWG, also reflected on his career. “I began my career as a 15-year-old boy in the XIV Commonwealth Games. It has been 12 long years since and I am proud to be associated with the Delhi edition of the same,” he said as he held the white and red uniform.
The uniforms worth Rs 9.85 crores are meant for volunteers, technical officials and maintenance staff, among others, has the ‘Delhi 2010’ mark embossed, and have been procured from a sports goods manufacturer (a sponsor as well) free of cost.
OC secretary, Lalit Bhanot, who was present said the OC has additionally purchased uniforms worth Rs 12.01 crores as well.
