The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India is considering supporting one Olympic sport at a time instead of five for which a fund of Rs 50 crore was set up.
At the end of its finance committee meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday, Rajiv Shukla, the chairman of the committee, said: “It has been discussed whether to continue with the five sports that we are supporting or to pick one sport and promote it, like football.”
The matter will be taken forward to the working committee to be held in Mumbai on Thursday.
Shukla confirmed that the All India Football Federation's stand-in president, Praful Patel, had requested the BCCI for an aid of Rs 25 crore.
On the issue raised by certain federations who have claimed they have not received monetary assistance from the BCCI, Shukla said: “We give the money to the government and it is for the government to decide which of the disciplines need support.”
