Four-time gold-medallist at women's boxing world championships and recipient of many other national and international awards, MC Mary Kom, was delighted to be one of the brand ambassadors of the Commonwealth Games, but said she had, till now, not received any official confirmation about it.
"I have come to know through media that I have been chosen as one of the brand ambassadors for the Commonwealth Games and I feel honoured but I have still not got any formal information from the concerned officials," said Mary Kom who was in the Capital on Friday for her association with a corporate firm.
About her tournaments, Mary Kom was confident of a good showing in the World Championships in Barbados in September and Asian Games in November.
She also believes age will not be a hindrance performing well at the 2012 London Olympics where she will be nearing her thirties.
"My immediate target is to perform well at the World Championships and the Asian Games but I also want to win at the 2012 Olympic Games for which I am working very hard," added the 2004 Arjuna award winner.
The boxer was also upbeat about her academy in Imphal and the talent there. She claimed that in future some very talented women boxers would come out of it. "The academy was started in 2007 and is still in its nascent stage but we have some very good future prospects there," said Mary Kom who has 35 young girls training in her academy with 20 of them chosen recently. Mary thanked the army and CRPF in her state who have provided boxing kits for the youngsters who train in her academy.
