Chetan ends title drought

Chetan Anand finally managed to win a title after a hiatus of almost a year. Ranked 18th in the world, the shuttler thumped Eric Pang of the Netherlands 21-12, 21-15 in the final of the Dutch Open at Almere, the Netherlands, on Sunday. Placed six rungs below Chetan, Pang could do little to stop second-seed Chetan.

The shuttler had last won Bitburger Open in 2008. Chetan had a bad start to this year as he crashed out in the second round of the World Badminton Championships in Hyderabad. Apart from finishing second best at the Dutch Grand Prix and making the quarterfinals of the Danish Open last year, the shuttler had very little to his credit.

National coach, Pullela Gopi Chand, said the win would hold him in good stead . “It's a great win for Chetan. It will surely boost his confidence for the upcoming tournaments. I am sure he will maintain the same tempo throughout,” he said.
