Ganguly pips Ulibin to title
National champion Surya Shekhar Ganguly won the 7th Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament.
National champion Surya Shekhar Ganguly won the 7th Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament on Monday. Though he tied for the top spot with Mikhail Ulibin, Ganguly edged out the Russian Grandmaster by half a point to clinch his maiden title, here.

The Indian GM settled for a quick draw against P Karthikeyan in just 15 moves while Ulibin got the better of M.S. Thejkumar. Kazakh GM Petr Kostenko drew with GM Neeltopal Das to finish third.
Karthikeyan and S.P. Sethuraman achieved GM norms to finish fourth and fifth respectively while IM Prathamesh Mokal also made his GM norm. Shahikant Kutwal, Prantik Roy and Arindam Mukherjee too secured their IM norms. Shalmali Gagare bagged the best woman player’s title.
Results: S.S. Ganguly (8.5) drew with P Karthikeyan (8); M. Ulibin (RUS) (8.5) beat M.S. Thejkumar (7.5); N. Das (8) drew with P. Kostenko (KZK) (8); S. Saha (7) lost to Y. Kuzubov (UKR) (8); E. Gleizerov (RUS) (7.5) drew with P. Thipsay (7.5); A. Kunte (7.5) drew with S. Roy Chowdhury (7.5); S. Iuldachev (UZB) (7) lost to S.P. Sethuraman (8).
