India's top golfer Jeev Milkha Singh made a sedate start at the Qatar Masters with a two-under 70 in the opening round in Doha on Thursday.
Jeev, who moved up two places last week to a career-high No. 33 in the world, had four birdies and two bogeys in his round.
S.S.P Chowrasia, who missed the cut last week in Abu Dhabi, shot a three-over 75 with five bogeys and two birdies. It left him a tough job to score low to make the weekend cut.
Jeev opened with two pars and then bogeyed the third and was one-over after eight holes, before finding his first birdie on the ninth. Then he birdied the 10th and 13th and later added another on 16th, but in between dropped a shot on 14th. Jeev was lying 18th provisionally as more than half the field had yet to complete their first round.
Putting was once again the let down as he needed 29 for the round. He found 13 fairways but then missed a handful of birdie putts.
Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapur were still on course. Randhawa was even par after eight holes and Kapur was two-over after eight holes.
