It was a day of mixed fortunes for India at the Yamuna Sports Complex. The Indian women's table tennis team had to be content with silver, while the men failed to advance beyond the semifinal on Friday.
The Indian women were facing their biggest adversary in Singapore. The visitors did not give the hosts even a blink of a chance. India went down without putting up a fight 3-0.
The women had finished third in the team event in the last edition of the Games, while the men went into the mega event defending champions.
The first match between Mouma Das and Tianwei Feng was just a glimpse of what Singapore are capable. Das lost the first two games by a big margin. Though the Indians pulled one back, Feng won the last game 11-7.
Shamini Kumersan was no match for her opponent. Singapore had inflicted another defeat as they thumped Kumaresan 11-7, 11-7, 11-5.
The score-line read 2-0 in favour of the world champions. They needed just one more win to wind up the proceedings.
Next up was Poulomi Ghatak. But apart from extending the match into four games, the seasoned paddler couldn't do much. Ghatak lost 12-10, 8-11, 5-11,6-11.
