This is the third consecutive runners-up trophy for Pillai in national pool. Though Pillai made the initial move taking the first two racks in no time, Praveen came back strong and took the scores to 4-2. Despite Pillai's resilience, the 27-year-old did not give an inch in the eighth rack. “I always dreamed of winning, but never thought I would win this time,” she said.

In the men's 9-ball pool, Manan Chandra, Alok Kumar and Davendra Joshi stormed into the next round. While Manan beat Sunny Chaudhury 7-3, Alok beat Varun Taneja 7-2.
