Piyush lights up Classic greens

Seven years down, the chubby face still revels in watching the ball soar. Ironically, hitting it long is not his forte. Mature far beyond his years, he said without an iota of remorse: “Chipping and putting are my strong points.”

Playing to his strength, Piyush made 22 putts en route to a card of 68 that placed him atop Category C (11-12 years) on the opening day of the Albatross International Junior Tournament. Of note, was the hole-in-one on the 5th which he pulled off from a distance of 120 yards with an 8-iron. After terming it a “stroke of good luck”, Piyush sobered down and spoke of the affinity he shared with the Classic Golf Resort. “I have played here before and the course is to my liking. Besides the greens being good, the fairways are always in top shape,” he said.

Piyush is not a stranger to low scores. If Wednesday’s card was his best on the Albatross Junior Tour, he had a six-under against his name at an Indian Golf Union event at Kolkata’s Tollygunge Club last year.

While complementing the course’s upkeep, he found it difficult to find a measure of the greens. “They were tough,” he said while summing up the round.
