Saina starts super series finals with win

Saina Nehwal cleared the first hurdle in the badminton World Super Series Finals, beating Bae Yoon Joo of Korea 21-14, 17-21, 21-14 in her first league match on Wednesday.

Saina Nehwal cleared the first hurdle in the badminton World Super Series Finals, beating Bae Yoon Joo of Korea 21-14, 17-21, 21-14 in her first league match on Wednesday.

Saina has been grouped with Joo, China's Wang Xin and Japan's Sayaka Sato in Group B. The event is the last of major tournament of the year where the top-eight players in each category compete.

Top billing for Saina
Saina has been given top billing in the in the Syed Modi Memorial India Grand Prix Gold tournament to be held in Lucknow from December 20. In the men's section, Indonesians Simon Santoso and Taufik Hidayat have been seeded first and second in the $120,000 (Rs 65 lakh) event.
