With the qualifiers of the Durand Cup reaching the closing stages, Simla Youngs FC and Assam Rifles went a step closer to the quarterfinal league. Simla Youngs prevailed over Amity United, in the tiebreaker, after the regulation time ended with both teams tied at 2-2.

Roshan Singh, goalkeeper of the Simla Youngs, did not have a good day under the bar. In the eighth minute of the game, Amity’s Chaya headed in a ball after Singh failed to clear a well-placed cross towards the box.

Singh blundered again, in the 36th minute, and Amity took full advantage, scoring their second goal of the match.

This time, Singh failed to collect a loose ball which Praveen Arora, Amity’s captain, pounced on and flicked it into the net.

But, Simla Youngs came back into the game, thanks to goals from Budhram Soren and Kartik Mukhi.

V Kaira could have won the game for Amity when he stepped up to take a penalty after Arora had been held down by the goalkeeper inside the box. But unfortunately for Amity, Kaira missed the target, taking the the game into the tiebreaker.

In contrast, Assam Rifles had an easy day as they comfortably strolled to a 3-0 win over Army Supply Corps, Bangalore. Akun Ao, Thoi Thoiba Singh and Leishang Them Singh got on the scorecard as the Rifles maintained their clean slate in the tournament.
