The mall is located at Patliputra Colony in western Patna. The accident led to the instant death of Suresh Prasad, a local trader, while his daughter Khushi Raj is battling for life at a private nursing home in the state capital. Two other children of the deceased also suffered minor injuries in the accident. The Prasads, a lower middle class family and dependent on a small hardware shop, are not only shattered by this incident but also finding it hard to meet the medical expenses of Khushi, who suffered multiple fractures after coming under the wheels of the vehicle. The details of the vehicle seized by the police have been verified. It is owned by the wife of a deputy collector posted in Gaya, Shambhu Kumar Singh. Sources said she has given it in writing that a case should be lodged against the driver, as he was driving the vehicle when the accident took place. The vehicle had a beacon fitted atop with ‘Bihar Sarkar Prashasan’ written in bold on a red plate, which the police say is illegal as the vehicle is not owned by the state government.

Raids were conducted by the police in the last couple of days, but to no avail. “We are probing all angles and trying to arrest the driver, who is said to be behind the wheels at the time of the accident,” said city SP Jayant Kant. The Patliputra police have already registered an FIR against the driver under Sections 279, 304-A, 347, 348 and others of the IPC.
