In an interview with Zarafshan Shiraz of HT Lifestyle, Dr Honey Savla, Internal Medicine at Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai Central, shared, “Not everyone needs to take this supplement, only those who have deficiencies or skin issues can consider taking Omega 3 fatty acids.  Also, those who have a strict vegetarian diet and do not consume seafood may require this supplement.   Omega-3 fatty acids are found in seafood, however, also available in a wide variety of plant foods.” (Shutterstock)

He added, "Different kinds of seeds and nuts such as walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, edamame, seaweed, and algae. Other green leafy vegetables and beans also contain small amounts of fatty acid. Although not supported by research, one of the very important advantages is that it helps to increase LDL cholesterol.  So, Omega 3 can be used as an important tool to increase good cholesterol." (Shutterstock)

Miten Kakaiya, Fitness Coach and Founder of Miten Says Fitness, revealed, “Omega-3 fatty acids are scientifically proven to support muscle protein synthesis. That means it helps your muscles get stronger, aids faster muscle recovery and increases lean muscle mass but while our body can make almost all the fats it needs endogenously, Omega-3 is an essential fat that the body can’t make and has to be sourced exogenously. That means you have to take Omega-3 supplements in the form of food or otherwise to support your omega-3 needs and you don’t need to live off fish alone. There are plenty of plant-based options for vegetarians to add Omega-3 to their diet and tap into its benefits.” (Unsplash)

He suggested, "Walnuts, flax seeds, and algae-based omega-3 supplements which are derived from marine microalgae itself can be powerful Omega-3 supplements to add to your diet for health and vitality. An integral part of health is to follow a wholesome balanced diet that fulfills your nutrition needs, and given that omega-3 fatty acids are not naturally produced in the body, taking fish-oil or plant-based supplements or otherwise is a great idea to promote health! Unlock the potential of omega-3s and add years of wellness to your life starting today!" (Shutterstock)
