Afghanistan earthquake: Photos narrate horrific aftermath
The Saturday quakes in the western Afghanistan hit 35 km northwest of the city of Herat, with one of 6.3 magnitude, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck western Afghanistan on Saturday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This was followed by four significant aftershocks with epicenters close to the region's largest city. The Taliban administration reported that more than 2,000 people lost their lives, and over 9,000 were injured in what is considered the deadliest earthquake in the quake-prone, mountainous country in years.(AFP)

Mullah Jan Sayeq, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Authority, addressed the media in Kabul on Sunday, revealing that 2,053 individuals had lost their lives, 9,240 were injured, and 1,320 houses were damaged. This marked a significant increase from the initial report by the Red Crescent, which had stated 500 deaths earlier on Sunday.(AFP)

The epicenter of the earthquake was located near Herat city, as confirmed by the US Geological Survey. Following the initial quake, there were strong aftershocks, including another one measuring 6.3 magnitude that occurred half an hour later.(AFP)
