Athens wildfires continues to burn for second day, forcing more evacuations

On Wednesday morning more than 200 firefighters, seven planes and eight helicopters were working to contain the conflagration, while many residents are choosing to stay in the area to protect their homes.  (AFP)

Situated in the foothills, the small town of Fili is positioned approximately 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) to the northwest of the capital. Despite this distance, smoke emanating from the ongoing fire has traveled to central Athens, resulting in uncomfortable breathing conditions even within enclosed areas.  (REUTERS)
