In Pics: Redeveloped Central Vista Avenue is ready, set to open for public

Ahead of the inauguration of the much-awaited revamped Central Vista Avenue in New Delhi, the ministry of housing and urban affairs on Monday released pictures of the lawns and other facilities stretching from Vijay Chowk to the India Gate. On September 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the revamped Central Vista Avenue, considered to be the most popular public space in the national capital. It will finally be opened to the public after a long wait of 19 months. Officials expecting huge footfall in the inaugural month said that there will be heavy police deployment in the area initially. They also said the public will be able to visit the stretch between Vijay Chowk and Mansingh Road on Rajpath on Thursday from 7 pm - after the inauguration. Modi is also expected to unveil a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate.

The officials also informed that the stretch between India Gate and Mansingh Road will be opened to the public over the weekend after the arrangements made for the inauguration are cleared.(ANI)

The stretch has red granite walkways spreading around 1.1 lakh square metre with greenery all around, more than 133 light poles along the Rajpath, 4,087 trees, 114 modern signages and stepped gardens.(ANI)

As many as 300 CCTV cameras have been installed in the area, which will be monitored 24x7 at a control room set up at the avenue, as per the officials.(ANI)

A parking space for 1,117 cars and 40 buses has been constructed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) on either side of Rajpath. The officials have also said that there will be free parking for the first couple of months.(ANI)
