MI won the toss and chose to bowl first. Nuwan Thushara got the breakthrough by removing Philip Salt (5) in the first over with Tilak Varma taking a stunning catch. MI dominated the powerplay, with Thushara taking two more wickets in his next two overs and captain Hardik Pandya dismissing the dangerous Sunil Narine in the fifth. Rinku Singh then fell off the first ball of the seventh over bowled by Piyush Chawla. Despite this dominance, though, MI chose to give Jasprit Bumrah just one over throughout the first 10. (IPL)

Bumrah's absence meant that KKR could recover from their disastrous start. Venkhates Iyer and Manish Pandey put up a stand of 83 runs off 62 balls. Venkatesh ended up scoring 70 in 52 balls.(IPL)

Bumrah was finally given the ball in the death overs and he went on to pick three wickets. He recorded figures of 3/18 and KKR were all out for 169. One can only wonder how much lower their score could have been had Bumrah been allowed to bowl more when Venkatesh and Pandey were still fresh to the crease. (ANI )

KKR did the opposite of what MI did. Instead of keeping their most potent bowlers out of the attack when the opposition was losing wickets, Shreyas Iyer kept giving the ball to Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. (PTI)
