The deceased was identified as Pratiksha Pachpinde, a resident of Thergaon. The victim’s mother accused the former’s husband Pankaj Pachpinde of having an extramarital affair. Wakad police registered the case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 498 (enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman) against two accused, including her husband.

Jayashri Rode,45, mother of Pratiksha Pachpinde, lodged a police complaint in Wakad police station. In her complaint, she stated that Pratiksha married Panchpide a year ago. “However, Panchpide had allegedly developed an illicit relation with one of her friends. As a result, the married couple developed strains in their relationship, following which Pratiksha left the house and came to my house in Bhosari. Many a times, Panchpide tried to beat Pratiksha over the affair, as a result of which, Pratiksha lost her mental temperament and committed suicide,” Rode said in her complaint.

M Kengar, police sub inspector, said, “The Pratiksha’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of her house.” Kengar said the prima facie probe has revealed that her husband’s extramarital affair led to Pratiksha ending her life.
