60-year-old arrested with 4.3kg marijuana in Pune

Cost of the recovered substance is estimated to be around Rs 64,000.

A 60-year-old man was arrested by the Wakad police for being in possession of over 4 kg marijuana on Wednesday morning. The peddler was identified as Chandu Pyarappa Pujari, a resident of Kalakhadak slum area in Wakad.

He was found in possession of 4.365 kg of cannabis in front of Chandramauli garden, located in Kalakhadak area of Wakad. The total cost of the recovered substance is estimated to be around Rs 64,000.

The police found him roaming in a suspicious manner with a bag in his hand. He later confessed to have been carrying it for sale. The police are yet to find who he was going to sell the recovered narcotics to. The police are also investigating the source of the narcotic substance.

“He was arrested on Wednesday night. He was produced in the court on Thursday and remanded to magisterial custody,” said police sub inspector (PSI) Harish V Mane of Wakad police station who is investigating the case. The court kept his age in mind while not remanding him to police custody, according to the police. “He has no criminal record. This was the first time he was arrested,” PSI Mane said.
