Ahmednagar man evading arrest for 2013 murder held

Five years after a lawyer was murdered by a group of people in Ahmednagar, one of the escaped assailants was arrested by the Ahmednagar city police crime branch on Sunday.
The man, identified as Sadik Bashir Shaikh, 36, is a resident of Lakshminagar in Nevasa area of Ahmednagar, according to a statement issued by Ranjankumar Sharma, Ahmednagar city superintendent.
Having been on the run for the past five years, he kept changing his base. He got in touch with pick-pockets and thieves from his wife's native place in Srirampur. Since the 2013 case, he has been booked under theft and robbery charges in Srirampur, Shirdi, Pune and Nashik.
Shaikh was arrested along with four others, while they were preparing for a dacoity. The others were identified as Santosh Suresh Kamble, 28, a resident of Sanjaynagar in Srirampur; Sabbir Shabbir Sayyed, 25, a resident of beef market in Srirampur; Anwar Latif Mansuri, 25, a resident of Bajrang chowk in Srirampur and Sagar Suresh Kamble, 22, a resident of Ramner in Srirampur.
The men were arrested after police inspector Dilip Pawar received information about their activities. The police raided their hideout located along the Ahmednagar-Manmad road near Shani Shingnapur road in Rahuri.
The five men were arrested in a case under Sections 399 (preparation to commit dacoity) and 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Rahuri police station under Ahmednagar police limits.
Upon investigation, Shaikh revealed to have been an associate of Sopan Gade, a man from Ahmednagar with a history of criminal charges against him. He was found to be one of the people accused in a five-year-old case of violent murder of a lawyer called Riyaz Pathan in Nevasa.
