Two men were arrested on Monday night for the alleged murder of a youngster in a restaurant on the old Pune-Mumbai highway on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Nehal Pandurang Nanekar, 23, a resident of Bhoir Ali area of Chinchwad, according to the police.

The two arrested were identified as Vicky Anil Gholap (22) and Sanket Vasant Satankar (23).

“The Kamshet police arrested the two from Pune and handed them over to us. They went to a hotel, got into a fight and shot him. We are investigating the reason behind the fight,” said police inspector Ramdas Ingawale of Lonavla rural police station.

“The two brought him to Aditya Birla (Memorial Hospital),” said police sub inspector (PSI) CB Kamble of Kamshet police station, who received the post-mortem report before transferring the case to Lonavla rural police station.

Nanekar was a friend of Akash alias Raiba Tanaji Landge, 24, who was attacked and killed by four bike-borne men at Chapekar chowk in Chinchwadgaon on May 30. Nanekar is suspected to be a member of the Gholap gang of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

According to the police, Nanekar had sustained a gunshot in the middle of his forehead with a prohibited forearm in Hotel Rajwada in Kamshet around 9 pm on Sunday. He was declared dead at Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area.

A case was registered based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Pandurang Nanekar, 49, a rickshaw driver, at Kamshet police station. Nehal’s body was sent to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri for post-mortem.

A case under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 3, 25 and 27 (use of prohibited firearms) of Arms Act was registered at Kamshet police station under Pune rural police station.
