Maratha Kranti Morcha, which has been demanding reservation for community, has suffered a split with the women wing forming a separate state-level committee alleging there is no space for women in Maratha Kranti Morcha.
The women wing of the Maratha Kranti Morcha held a press conference in Pune on Tuesday and announced the formation of the state-level women coordination committee consisting of 360 women representatives from all the districts of Maharashtra.
The women wing has varied opinions about the resolutions passed by the state-level coordination committee of Maratha Kranti Morcha. Usha Patil, convener of women wing, Maratha Kranti Morcha said,’’Few days before, Maratha Kranti Morcha has formed a state-level coordination committee to decide on the further course of action but the organisers kept women away from the committee. They have not appointed a single women representative on the committee. To protest against this,we have formulated a separate state-level coordination committee of all women representatives only.’’ Swati Pawar, convener, said,’’We have also participated in the agitation. Police have registered cases against many Maratha women. They how are they ignoring our sacrifice for community? ‘’ The women wing of the Maratha Kranti Morchahas appointed 10 women members from each district on the committee.
A meeting has been called for on September 7 to decide on the further course of action on reservation. Recently, Maratha Kranti Morcha had decided not to protest for reservation and formulate a state-level coordination committee consisting of 170 members. The committee will be responsible for the further course of action on other 15 demands of the outfit like construction of student hostels in every district, correction in ‘EBC Grants’ to Maratha students, withdrawal of criminal cases against Maratha youth during the Maratha agitation and ₹250 crore funding to Sarathi Institute for the development of the Maratha community.
