Over 30,000 seats are vacant for students in the first year junior college (FYJC) special round, which was declared on Monday. The special round was introduced after the Maratha bandh delayed the admission process by a day. After the fourth round of admission, which concluded on August 10, more than 37,000 students were left without admissions.
To accommodate all the students and provide them seats in Pune junior colleges, the education department officials introduced a special round with the remaining general seats. At present, there are 31,004 seats remaining vacant for this round. In addition the minority colleges, which were initially barred from surrendering their quota seats by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court, were allowed to do so from August 9 to 11.
“As per the court’s order, now the minority colleges can surrender their minority, in-house and management seats, and non-minority colleges can surrender their in-house management seats. This will help us bridge the gap in seats and student ratio seen in the previous rounds. Students will just need to start filling the Part 1 and Part 2 admission forms and confirm their admissions by August 21. The process is extremely student-friendly, so in the form filling round from August 13 to 14, students can also edit their college and subject preferences,” said Meenakshi Raut, deputy director of education, Pune.
Junior colleges that have or will complete 70 per cent of their admissions will be permitted to begin the regular classes for Class 11. For those students who would join late, the college has to take the responsibility to finish their syllabus by the end of the academic year.
