Man booked for driving wife to commit suicide in Pune

Vijay Biru Landge used to allegedly torture his wife, Rukmini Vijay Landge, physically and mentally because of his doubts.

A 27-year-old man was booked, on Friday, for driving his wife to commit suicide. The deceased wife was identified as Rukmini Vijay Landge, 22, while the husband was identified as Vijay Biru Landge. The two were residents of lane number five in Tapogham area of Warje, according to the police.

The booked man reportedly doubted the character of his wife, according to the complaint in the case. The complaint in the case was filed by the deceased woman's father, Vitthal Sarvade, 65, a resident of Sanchidanandnagar in Ausa area of Latur, according to the police.

Vijay Biru Landge used to allegedly torture his wife physically and mentally because of his doubts, the father said. The two got married in 2016. On June 11, barely two years after their wedding, Rukmini hanged herself in their residence.

A case under Sections 498(a) (domestic violence), 306 (abetment to suicide), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Landge. RP Kshirsagar, police sub inspector of Warje police station, is investigating the case.
