Maratha reservation: Corporators create ruckus at Pune Municipal Corporation’s general body meeting

The Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) parties on Thursday, cornered the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of reservations for the Maratha community and forced the ruling party to adjourn the general body meeting in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also joined the agitation at the general body meeting.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Bhosale broke flower pots in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj auditorium which were put in front of Mayor’s table.

As Shiv Sena members became more aggressive and started creating a ruckus in the hall, the ruling party decided to adjourn the meeting.

The important topic of the development plan for Yewalewadi, where a large tract of land has been reserved for construction, was expected to get a nod at Thursday’s meeting.

Mukta Tilak, Pune mayor, expressed unhappiness over the elected members’ behaviour.

After adjourning the meeting Tilak spoke with the media and said that the ruling party was thinking about taking action against the Sena leaders, but by considering the sensitivity of the issue, decided not to take any action against any member.

The ongoing agitation by Marathas over reservations in the jobs and education sector resonated in various parts of the city.
