Post-midnight garbage dumping at Aundh riverside continues

HT reported the garbage pile on the Mula river slope was resulting in mounds of garbage flowing into the river, with restaurants, roadside eateries and residents from Aundh-Baner, among others, are being blamed for this.

Acting on the HT expose of garbage dumping on the Mula river slope in Aundh, along the ‘Smart City’ road project, the PMC continued its clean-up of the mountain of filth for the second day, on Sunday, August 13, as well.

However, HT can reveal that post-midnight, at least one truck rolled up to the spot in question and dumped its load of garbage at the very site that was cleaned up in part during the day.

Waste-pickers have been dutifully clearing small quantities of garbage on a daily basis.

After the HT report, Vijay Bhoir, PMC’s divisional health inspector, sent pictures of the cleaning of the road near the slope to the Aundh Mohalla committee.

Speaking to HT, he said, “My staff worked until evening to clear the garbage, but we still have to wait for JCBs to clear the garbage off the slope. It can be done only on Monday after offices open.”
