With Fifa World Cup kicking off in three days, Pune is gearing up to live up to the hype. While sports lounges across the city will be telecasting the games live, clubs and five stars hotels are still deciphering how to market the tournament. Many clubs and hotels will have special cuisines based on the teams playing and will also have special discounts. We speak t some Pune-based hoteliers and club owners on how thet look to cash in on the football frenzy.
“We will be screening matches and have an interesting decor at the Evviva Lounge. There will be dishes at our cafe Mosaic inspired from the cuisines of the countries playing. The idea is to enjoy the spirit of the game and celebrate it with Punekars,” said Divakar Shukla, general manager, Crowne Plaza.
Sunil Sheoran, general, TGI Fridays, have planned a special decor where flags of respective countries playing will be displayed at every outlet. There will be a special menu planned where drinks and food items will be served at a discounted price as well.
“We will be screening matches throughout the FIFA season at our property. In addition, we are planned a cocktail menu themed around the qualifiers, semi-finals and finals. The idea is to have a cocktail inspired by the teams that are playing and offer it at a discounted price when the teams are playing,” said Shravan Shetty, owner, Apache Next.
“We have planned screenings for the matches throughout the season. There is a special starter and three-package offer on alcohol during the time. We have also planned football themes food to be served alongside,” said Soumitra Kundu, food and beverages manager, The Orchid Hotel.
