Pune residents dedicate weekends to a green cause

Tree plantation drives and meditation sessions were held at various societies across the city

The weekend was filled with green initiatives for residents of Kumar Pragati, Kondhwa; Konark Eureka, Wadgaon Sheri; Ganesh Navbhangan, Dhayari; Mount N Glory co-op hsg society Ltd, Kharadi; Nano Homes, Ravet; Sanskriti School, Wagholi; Ganga Galaxy, Kondhwa and Sylvan retreat Apt, Range Hills.

Residents of Sylvan retreat apartment, Range hills, during the tree plantation drive organised at the society by Hindustan Times, Pune edition.

Tree plantation drives and meditation sessions were organised in association with the Hindustan Times, Pune edition, jointly with the Heartfulness Institute, at the above mentioned societies.

The tree plantation drive at Sansrkriti School, Wagholi, saw 125 participants. Pavan Randive, owner of Guru Krupa Nursery, Hadpsar, sponsored 30 big plants for the same.

Bharat Shendkar, chairman of Ujwal Park cooperative housing society, Kondhwa, said, “We all should learn the new way of living life. Without trees, we cannot even imagine life on our planet. Even the state government has conducted a statewide tree plantation drive on a large scale. The tree plantation drive by Hindustan Times will help make our surroundings cleaner and greener.”

Residents also encouraged planting of vegetables that are used daily in the kitchen and step towards making the city green.

Tree plantation drive at Nano Homes, Ravet, conducted recently, saw the participation of children and adults.

During the programme, volunteers from Heartfulness Institute spoke about the importance of meditation and relaxation techniques used by the institute to enhance the cognitive skills in people at Konark Eureka, Ganesh Navbhangan Society, Mount N Glory co-op housing society limited and Nano Homes.

Residents of all age groups gathered for the tree plantation drive at Mount N Glory co-op housing society limited, Kharadi.

The volunteers said that many such initiatives promoting meditation and relaxation are conducted by the institute for free. They demonstrated various practices of meditation besides speaking of skills to maintain calmness and inner peace.
