Professors allege wrong results given by Savitribai Phule Pune University

They say the engineering students of all streams, from the academic year 2015-16 to 2018-19 could be affected

One lakh undergraduate engineering students from colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) may have got incorrect results, alleged two professors in a public critique of the university’s credit system of evaluation.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, professor Aniket Khandekar and professor Kamalkishore Atal said the engineering students of all streams, from the academic year 2015-16 to 2018-19 could be affected.

According to the professors, SPPU started using the credit system of evaluation for the undergraduate engineering students in 2015. However, since then SPPU has been using an incorrect method for evaluation, the professors alleged.

Professor Atal and prof Khandekar sent an official email to the SPPU office regarding the issue in August 2018. After receiving no response they sent an email to Nitin Karmalkar, vice-chancellor SPPU on January 28. On Mach 5, both the professors had a meeting with Karmalkar and explained him the gravity of the issue.

Professor Atal, “The rules of using the credit system of evaluation is different for postgraduate and undergraduate students. However, the results of undergraduate engineering students from 2015-16 batch where declared using postgraduate rules which is illegal, incorrect and will affect the future of the students.”

Giving a solution to resolve the issue prof Atal said, “SSPU has a record in the form of marks, they can apply the correct method and convert marks to grades in order to get an accurate result. The only thing they need to do is reprint the results and we are ready to help them.”
