Pune-based NGO Saarthi Pratishthan organised a programme where they felicitated as many as 100 drivers for accident-free and safe driving throughout 2017.
Rajendra Waghchaure, secretary of Saarthi Pratishthan, said, “We have a track report given by the Pune traffic department of all the drivers we are felicitating today. Not a single case of violation of any rules while driving was registered against all the 100 drivers, who we are felicitating.”
Saarthi Pratishthan is an NGO established in 2003 by drivers who work in private companies or work under individual car owners. It was established with an objective of creating unity among all the private vehicle drivers in Pune along with protecting the rights of the drivers.
Assistant police inspector Suraj Patil, traffic department Pune, said, “It is indeed a commendable job that has been done by these 100 drivers. It is our daily routine to hear complaints of drivers for their rash driving. Exponential growth of traffic over the years has added to these problems. Under such a scenario, I congratulate all these drivers who took the responsibility of driving safely, thus leading by example. I also urge all the people to stop honking unnecessarily. This would certainly reduce noise pollution.”
Ankush Umle, a driver who was felicitated by the Saarthi Pratishthan, said, “On January 1, 2017, we had pledged that we will not break any rules while driving. Regardless of the situations, we have managed to complete this task successfully. I am thankful to Saarthi Pratishthan for this honour.”
