Three rickshaw drivers were arrested on Sunday for robbing their customers. The three men were identified as Vijay Haribhau Kumbhar, 30, a resident of Shahu Vasahat in Lakshminagar; Balasaheb alias Sandeep Ramdas Aaru, 48, a resident of Ambegaon Pathar; and Rajendra Ganpat Salekar, 42, of Sriram heights in Narhe, according to the police.
They were remanded to police custody till Wednesday by a local court. The complaint in the matter was filed by Imam Shipai, 39, a labourer from West Bengal working in Wai, Satara.
"He was travelling from Satara to West Bengal with three of his colleagues who are also from West Bengal. They arrived at Swargate on a bus and hired an autorickshaw to go to Pune railway station," said police sub inspector SJ Kadam of Swargate police station who is investigating the case. The four men worked for installation of Bharatiya Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) towers in Wai.
The three men have a history of at least four earlier cases against them. The earliest case is from 2011 in Khadak police station.
“They also have earlier cases in Bibwewadi, Bharati Vidyapeeth and Swargate police stations. They work in shifts for the owner of the autorickshaw so their permits were never cancelled,” PSI Kadam added.
