Twenty cases of house break-in and theft were solved after the anti-extortion squad of the Pune police arrested two men. One of them had come under the police radar and was known to be on the run for the past several days.
Nikhil alias Monty Dattatray Kangne, 24, a resident of Anandnagar in Talegaon Dhamdhere area of Shirur and Amol Raghunath Gopkar, 28, a resident of Bhakti Shakti nagar in Chikhli were arrested by the police. While Kangne is jobless, Gopkar worked as a labourer, according to the police. The police have recovered gold worth ₹11 lakh from their possession.
The two were caught while trying to sell stolen gold to a goldsmith in Hadapsar on Sunday. The police set a trap for him when they received the information of the said sale.
A judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) at the Cantonment court in Pune had remanded the two in police custody till Thursday, on Monday. The police had arrested the two under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code registered at the Hadapsar police station.
The two were found to have committed house break-ins and thefts in areas under the Chandannagar, Yerawada, Vimantal, Wanowrie, Faraskhana, Sahakarnagar, Sinhagad road, Warje and Nigdi police stations, besides Hadapsar. A total of 20 thefts were brought to light by their arrest and subsequent interrogation, according to Sameer Shaikh, assistant commissioner of police, crime.
