A 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old girl committed suicide on Saturday, bringing the total number of suicides this week in the city to four.
The 17-year-old boy, identified as Pramod Sohamlal Patel, committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan in his house in Someshwarwadi area of Pashan. The reason behind the drastic step by the teenager is under investigation, said senior police inspector Dayanand Dhome of Chaturshrungi. The incident was recorded as an accidental death under Code of Criminal Procedure Section 174. Pramod, the second youngest of the four siblings, had recently started pursuing standard 12th classes, said the police.
The other suicide was reported from the Ram Nagar slum area in Chinchwad, where a 20-year-old student, identified as Shamal Rajendra Nalawade, pursuing her first year of Bachelor in Commerce from a local college, committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling fan. According to police sub-inspector SA Kale, Shamal also did not leave a note before killing herself. Shamal is the daughter of contract labourer parents.
Starting with a software professional Gopikrishna Durgaprasad (25), who jumped to his death from a hotel roof in Viman Nagar, the city also witnessed the suicide of Rahul Anil Agarwal (20), a Nepalese student studying in a reputed institute on Friday. With these two confirmed cases of suicide registered, the total number this week has now increased to four.
While Gopikrishnan left a suicide note, providing some form of reason for his drastic step to his parents and the police, the three students did not leave any form of note explaining their drastic choice. The police have not come to a conclusion as to what could have led the youngsters to take the drastic step.

{{/usCountry}}All the cases were registered as accidental deaths as the government had decriminalised suicide under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 309, scrapping the section altogether.
