In a bid to check mother-child mortality rate during delivery by providing ultra-modern facilities to pregnant women of the city and adjoining areas, the upcoming 100-bed district-level mother child care hospital at Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital would be soon dedicated to people.

Divulging the details, deputy commissioner (DC) Rajat Aggarwal said that the hospital, coming up at a cost of `16.61 crore, was a part of the state government's ambitious project of imparting quality healthcare facilities to the people.

He added with the operationalisation of the hospital, the pregnant women would be able to avail quality healthcare services and would not have to rush to private hospitals in case of any emergency.

With the commissioning of the hospital, healthcare facilities in the district would get a major fillip, the DC said.

The DC said that as per the directions of CM Parkash Singh Badal, the hospital would be fully air-conditioned and Punjab Health Systems Corporation would manage it by deploying specialist gynaecologists and paediatric doctors. "95% of the construction work of hospital has been completed and the remaining would be finished soon," he added.

At the hospital, pregnant women will be able to avail free health care services before and after the delivery for one year and in case of female child, health care facility would be provided for five years.

"With the operationalization of this hospital at the civil hospital, Ludhiana will get relief from the burden of heavy work load during the time of deliveries," he added.
