Over 31 years after 114 city residents applied for plots under the 475-acre scheme of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, they are still waiting for the allotment letters.
These residents claim that they have visited the LIT office several times over the past three decades to know the status of allotment letters. But in vain.
“My mother Shakuntla Sehgal had applied for a plot in 1982. Her name figured in the draw after nine years, but then her plot was acquired. We had then moved the Punjab and Haryana high court that had ordered LIT to allot a plot elsewhere. But we are still waiting,” claimed V Sehgal, a city resident.
“In the draw held on September 17, 2012, plots were allotted to 41 applicants, while the remaining 73 applicants figured in the draw held on October 30, 2012. The residents were happy as the draw was held at a time when they had almost given up hope,” Sehgal added.
A new resolution was passed in October 2013 by LIT for allotment of 114 plots of 475-Acre Scheme and was submitted by the director of local government Punjab to the state government for approval, Davinder Kumar Rehan, another city resident, who had applied for a plot in 1982, said.

{{/usCountry}}“Now, as the approval is lying pending, we are being forced to wait once again. We will now give memorandum to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal as the officials have failed to tell the status of our cases,” Rehan added.
When contacted, principal secretary of local government, Ashok Gupta said, “I can't tell as I have no information about the case. I receive over 2,000 files everyday, so I cannot remember the status of every case.”
Priyank Bharti, director of local government, and S Ghulati, chairman of LIT, claimed that they didn't have any information about the status of the case.
