12 old, rusted bombs found near Attari-Amritsar rail line

Amid tension along the Indo-Pak border, 12 rusted bombs were recovered near the Attari-Amritsar line of Samjhauta Express on Saturday.

Amid tension along the Indo-Pak border, 12 rusted bombs were recovered near the Attari-Amritsar railway line of Samjhauta Express on Saturday.

Panic gripped the area after a farmer found a sack containing the bombs about 10 feet from the tracks, around 11am.

Army and Punjab police officials inspected the old bombs near the Attari-Amritsar railway line on Saturday.

Senior officials of the Punjab police, Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) rushed to the spot near Sandhu Colony on Chheharta road.

Bomb disposal team, which reached around 2:15pm, examined the bombs. Sources said the bombs are the ones used by the defence forces, and are very old and defused.

Amritsar railway station house officer (SHO) Davinder Singh Randhawa said a highly equipped bomb disposal squad has been called from the Punjab Armed Police headquarters in Jalandhar to dispose of the bombs.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Explosives Act at the GRP police station, Amritsar.
