Tension prevailed in Jodhpur village of Tarn Taran district on Tuesday after a clash between two groups left at least 13 persons injured, some of them seriously.

The Tarn Taran police, however, claimed that a total of nine persons sustained injuries in the clash, which also witnessed firing by one of the groups.

Some of the seriously injured persons have reportedly been referred to Amritsar for treatment, though the police claimed that no one sustained serious injuries in the clash.

However, no case was registered in this connection till the filing of this report.

The clash took place between followers of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) and a Sikh organisation over a religious gathering organised by the former at a private residence in Tarn Taran.

Giving details, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Tarn Taran Manmohan Kumar Sharma said that the followers of DJJS were preparing to hold a religious gathering at the house of a resident of Jodhpur village when they were confronted by members of a Sikh organisation, who opposed the gathering.

The SSP maintained that no case had been registered so far as the police were in the process of verifying facts pertaining to the case. "We are trying to ascertain the involvement of various people in the clash. A case would be registered after verification of the facts," he said.
