The children, who belonged to different villages of the area, were on their way to Arohi Model School at Songri when the accident occurred in the morning. The injured, including four girls, were rushed to the Indira Gandhi Multi-Specialty Hospital in Kaithal.

Eyewitnesses said a bullock-cart came in front of the bus and in a bid to avoid a collision, the driver, who was speeding, lost control and the bus skidded off the road.

The students told mediapersons that the overloaded bus was being driven rashly. Parents of the injured children at the hospital said that there was only one bus to ferry the 150-odd children of several villages in the area to and from school and its driver often violated traffic rules.

Rajaund police station in-charge Subhash Sheokand said that the statements of students were being recorded and action would be taken after that.
