15 Amritsar dist schools selected to give vocational education to Class 9 students

As many as 15 government senior secondary schools from Amritsar districts have been selected to impart vocational training among Class 9 students under the aegis of National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) Scheme and every selected school will be given two vocational trades.

As many as 15 government senior secondary schools from Amritsar districts have been selected to impart vocational training among Class 9 students under the aegis of National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) Scheme and every selected school will be given two vocational trades.

Under the vocational education there will be various trades such as beauty, wellness, healthcare, retail, travel and tourism, security etc.

Amritsar deputy district education officer (deputy DEO) Satish Kumar, who has recently receive a list comprising names of the 15 schools, said at a meeting of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in February, it was decided that 300 government senior secondary schools in Punjab would be selected to start vocational education for the Class 9 students.

Kumar said on May 16, the Amritsar district administration would be holding a meeting, which would be a training module for the school heads and teachers of the 15 schools selected for the vocational education.

The training would be given by officials of the director general of school-cum-state project director’s office, he said, adding that they would teach the staff on how to monitor students and make them understand the objective behind the project.

“It’s a great initiative by the Centre, as this will help government school students acquire vocational skills and become financially independent. Earlier, vocational education was for Class 11 students,” the deputy DEO added.

The 15 schools selected from Amritsar district are— Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS)Bhakna Khurad (G), GSSS Attari, Chawinda Devi, Naag Kalan, Khilchian, Tarsikka, Kohali, Mehta Nangal, Gagomahal, Sathiala, Mallian, Taragarh, Jabowal, Jagdev Kalan and Gumanpura.

The RMSA has selected 300 schools from various districts of Punjab — 15 from Amritsar, 12 Barnala, 14 Bhatinda, 8 Faridkot, 12 Fatehgarh Sahib, 14 Fazilka, 15 Ferozpur, 14 Gurdaspur, 14 Hoshiarpur, 14 Jalandhar, 15 Kapurthala, 14 Ludhiana, 15 Mansa,15 Moga, 15 Pathankot, 15 Patiala, 16 Rupnagar, 14 Sangrur, 13 SAS Nagar, 7 SBS Nagar, 14 each from Sri Muktsar Sahib and Tarn Taran districts, said the deputy DEO.
