16 held for immoral trafficking in two cases

The city police have arrested 16 persons in two different cases on charges of immoral trafficking. The accused include owners of two hotels, from where prostitution rackets were being run.

The city police have arrested 16 persons in two different cases on charges of immoral trafficking. The accused include owners of two hotels, from where prostitution rackets were being run.

In the first case, the police arrested nine persons from a hotel in Chowk Pragdass. The accused have been identified as Rajesh Kumar of Gurdaspur, Mohit Kumar of Chowk Karori, Varun Kumar of Ganda Singh colony, Sunny Kumar of Katra Karam Singh, Ravi Kumar of Himatpura, Veena of Gurdaspur, Anjali Sharma of Pathankot, Jasprit Kaur and Sofia of New Amritsar.

Division C SHO inspector Iqbal Singh, who is investigating the cases, said that the police had received secret information that a prostitution racket was being run from a hotel in Chowk Pragdass. He said that the kingpin was the hotel-owner Mohit Kumar, while Sunny Kumar assisted him in arranging customers.

In second case, the police booked seven persons, including the owner of a hotel, on charges of immoral trafficking. The accused in this case have been identified as Harjit Kaur of Jandiala Guru, Sarabjit Kaur of Sultanwind Road, Jassi of Sultanwind road, Balwinder Kaur of Pawan Nagar, Sonia of Chorkot village near Manawala, Kulwinder Singh of Chowk Farid and Gurprit Singh of Rampura village.
